Devcon 2024
I went to Devcon 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand š¹š
I will divide this post into 3 main parts (and a bonus):
- Thoughts on Bangkok
- Thoughts on Devcon
- Thoughts on StreamETH (see last post to know more about it)
- Bonus: Some photos and tweets hehe
Thoughts on Bangkok
This was my first time out of Europe, I never travelled a lot, I can count the number of places Iāve been to on my fingers.
- Sweden
- Denmark
- Norway
- Finland (barely)
- Portugal
- France
- England
Thats it, so you can imagine this was a big deal for me. More than 16 hours of travel from Spain (I hate travelling btw)
Well, all context now given, letās start with my actual thoughts on Bangkok, at least, the part I got to see, which was not a lot.
I didnāt like it too much XD. The people are cool, donāt get me wrong, but the city is just not my vibe.
I am not a big fan of hot weather, and Bangkok was extremely hot. I am not a fan of humidity either, and Bangkok was extremely humid, so yeah, weather was not my friend in this trip.
The city was very far from pleasant in terms of walking around, the traffic is a mess, and the pollution is something else, and wellā¦ not to mention the cockroaches and rats running around.
This might seem like I leave on a throne here in Spain, but no, I am not exaggerating, this is how it is. If you go from cafe to cafe, from mall to hotel, etcā¦ then well, yeah Bangkok is cool XD but the moment you want to wonder around and walk a bit, all the problems I mentioned before come to your face. Here in Spain, Madrid is also busy (not as much as Bangkok), but the city is much more pleasant to walk around, and the weather is not as bad as Bangkokās.
To sum up, I donāt think I would like to go back to Bangkok, but I am glad I went, it was a new experience.
Thoughts on Devcon
I went to Devcon to work actually, StreamETH is responsible for the livestreams of the event and the delivery of talks just after they happen. People were surprised how quickly the talks were available in the Ethereum Foundation Youtube and in the official Devcon app, and well, that was us.
Here are some tweets that made me happy āŗļø:
And many more that I have been re-tweeting in my feed.
So as you can see, not much of my time was spent in the conference, but I am glad I could help make people happy with the work we do. The small opportunities I had to go out and see the event were super cool, the venue was INCREDIBLE, and the feeling of being part of something so big was something else, you could see people chatting about cool topics, sharing ideas, listening to talks, etcā¦
With no doubt, this was the best Devcon ever.
Thoughts on StreamETH
To have full context on what StreamETH is, you can read my last post here.
Things are going cool inside StreamETH, we are working on huge things right now involving completeley reworked infrastructure and cracking our heads on go-to-market strategies. I am personally working on the new infra stack, which is something that is letting me learn a lot of new things about devops, cloud, and more. Personally loving it ā¤ļø
There has being some changes in the teamā¦ not the best and easiest decisions definitely, but until we make the platform actually get users and money, we are not going to be able to keep spending that much resources on it. We will get there for sure, but it just takes time.
Summing the StreamETH section, I am giga-happy with the work, I can see a very bright future for the platform, and I am glad I can be part of it.
Bonus: Some photos
Here are a couple more photos from Devcon.
